How do the Royals win? not just by scoring, but also not giving up runs in the first and last innings! posted on 05/25/2009
WOW, it was finally good to see us score first and then keep another team from scoring in the 7-9 innings!! That's how the new Royals started out the season and if they continue this we will keep being that lead story on Sportscenter and having more people talk about us then they have the last 10 years.
We finally had a game where we scored first, the first runs in the last 24 innings, and then the bullpen did great, a little scary, and closed it out. What was even better to see, John Bale back and he looked great. Now its time to take this momentum into the Detroit series.
It has been great the first month plus of the season, seeing the Royals featured on Sportscenter, and yes mainly because of Zack, but there have been plenty of other times we saw their game highlights pretty earlier in the broadcast, but now the last 2 weeks have been back to what we were use to the last decade. Being a life long Royal fan who does not live in near KC it was great to finally see not just highlights but hearing the players on the phone on MLB network and them taking more then a minute to talk about them.

So over the weekend we saw the Royals lose their first place title, and the Tigers playing well is not an excuse. We went from 7 games over .500 to 2 over and I am sure most Royals fans thought "Oh no here we go now, the Royals are back to their old ways". Royals fans, no it was not, but I admit I did think it for a little while, we still saw things you would have not seen last year.
Zack was good once again, and some say he was not great, but what do you expect when you have to sit around for almonst three hours before you were supposed to pitch and then play into the next morning. We saw comebacks that you did not see from the past years, and we finally saw a good bullpen, which we all know its been a while for that one. Jose Guillen is hitting, we are seeing home runs, and small ball, what a great squeeze play that was, especially when the Orioles announcers said they would be crazy to try that two times in a row.
